Like many business owners, Michelle Jacquez has pivoted during the pandemic. She runs Under Pressure Power Clean.
"With COVID coming about, I change into a janitorial service as well for disinfecting," Jacquez said.
With five employees, they clean and disinfect five to six businesses a day, concentrating on high traffic areas like handles, light switches, chairs and countertops.
"Having the full PPE gear on, it definitely does help keep myself protected, my employees, as well as the employers and employees that are at the companies and sites that we actually do visit," Jacquez said.
She said the demand for these types of services has recently gone up, for not only small businesses but also places like the Albuquerque International Sunport. The New Mexico Environment Department said through Rapid Response, when a business has a COVID exposure, employers can do the cleaning themselves or choose to hire a professional cleaning team, like Under Pressure Power Clean.
"I know that the need is great right now for disinfecting services because COVID has brought upon the need for disinfecting and that's the reason why I changed it up recently," Jacquez said.
Jacquez said depending on the size of the business and the request, cleaning and disinfecting can take 30 minutes up to two hours and through Rapid Response the Environment Department can provide a list of cleaners certified for use against COVID-19.
